Here are some useful phrases and expressions for working in a shop, or any customer service role.


On meeting / greeting people


Good morning

Good afternoon

Good evening


How can I help you?

Is there anything I can help you with?

Are you looking for anything in particular?

If you need me, I will be over here.

If you need anything, please do not hesitate to ask.


Vocabulary


'in particular' = special

'do not hesitate' = do not wait, do it quickly


During the discussion


One moment please.

Asking someone to wait but in a polite way.


I'm not sure. Let me get the manager, or someone who can help.

If you don't know the answer, be honest and say that. After you should get someone who can help.


Is there anything else I can do?

Used at the end to confirm that the discussion is over.


I will + verb + you + object.

I will bring you the bill.

I will get you another size.


I will + verb + object + for you.

I will arrange that for you.

I will put it behind the till for you.


At the end / leaving


Thank you.


Have a good day.

In the UK never say 'have a great day'.
